1st Stop Day 3: The Market Place

The first thing that I think of when I hear the words “market place” is the opening scene to Disney’s “Aladin”; a bustling busy place with venders offering an assortment of fruits and vegetables along with a variety of other goods. The market place in downtown Roseau offered the same experience but unlike the opening scene in “Aladin” the venders were friendly and willing to help us pay with American dollars and giving us the proper change in Eastern Caribbean dollars. Fresh mangoes, bananas, and pineapples are what caught our eyes and slightly drained our pockets. Grilled plantains and freshly cut palms for this relgious Dominica’s Palm Sunday were also bought.

After leaving the produce area of the market place we meandered down the road and wandered into shops. Multiple shops held various treasures from towels sporting the Dominican flag to attractive earrings and necklaces meant to decorate our persons. This new experience was a splendid beginning to a day that held much more to come.
