This blog will recount the research and travels of the Unity College Tropical Marine Ecology Learning Community as we travel to the Institute for Tropical Marine Ecology (ITME) in Rosseau, Dominica, March 13th-22nd. While there, students will apply their understanding of marine ecology and science writing to create a blog that explores issues including coral ecology, biome populations, and technical writing. We think it’s going to be great, so check back often!

news from the Home Campus: while you enjoy tropical paradise, we have cloudy skies with light snow on Saturday. But red-winged blackbirds appeared in Unity 7 MAR and have been singing on cold mornings since. 200+ crows are enjoying the compost pile even with little new food placed during break. Great blog! I really like how the different writers hand off to each other and together manage to cover so many aspects of this fascinating island. Yes, as Potter says, we’re still in winter back in Maine. More snow and freezing rain on the way this week. You guys might just reconsider that return flight.
Great blog! How I long for Dominica. As some of you know, I took my wife to Dominica for her 40th birthday along with my two boys (this was 7 years ago). I fell in love with the island and the wonderful people, nature, and kindred spirits of the island! Your photos brought back many memories for me; the plane landing, hot springs, snorkeling adventures, glorious food, fresh fruit, etc. This is an experience you will long remember. You are all very lucky to be able to enjoy something like this. It makes you appreciate life and realize the important things in life aren’t things!

I would like to see Dominica improve, get this Island in the right direction. provide jobs, opportunities and current and updated resources for the people. get the young people Education, so they can teach others to get this Island moving in the right direction. Politicians wake up use your natural resources, like Coconuts, bananas and coffee. look at all the other countries doing the same thing. travel to other countries and see what they are doing with the same thing we have in Dominica.
